Since the earliest arrival
of few Memons as merchants and traders to the isle of
Sri Lanka way back in 1870, they have grown in numbers
and have excelled in many fields of trade and industry.
Memons now totaling to almost ten thousand have immensely
contributed to the society and the country. Memons have
worked in harmony for almost 75 years without the cover
of an organized body.
It was only 50 years
ago that an association was formally incorporated to
preserve the social and cultural heritage of the Memon
community in Sri Lanka. Memons have maintained their
identity even though they are a small community in the
country. |
